The "Readius eReader", the first pocket-size e-reader with a rollable e-paper display larger than the device itself, was invented by Polymer Vision, a spin-off of an electronics company that wanted state-of-the-art technology to be able to reach the marketplace more quickly. A financial mess led the fledgling company to bankruptcy in July 2009, but its knight in shining armor was an Asian technology firm that has since shepherded the project to safety. It will make its debut in 2010.

Ebook readers are becoming more popular and Amazon has opened a door to their competitors by refusing to offer Kindle in Europe until October 2009. Nevertheless, the competition from mobile applications for cell phones, palm computers and the new smaller notebook PCs is increasing and their quality improving.

The Cool-er eBook reader is one of the new kids on the block, appearing in March 2009, but it has already taken the UK and much of Europe by storm and is starting to make significant inroads into the American market. Part of this success is due to its unique marketing methods, not only through the use of pretty girls at public exhibitions and demonstrations, but also possibly using the iPod as a marketing ploy that got the blogs and forums humming with the name.

2009 saw growth in sales and popularity of eBook readers, although there was still an innate reluctance for people to read from screens rather than paper. 2010 will see a shift in emphasis towards e-ink and paper developments, and the new kids on the block will be offering equipment that the more established Amazon and Sony will work hard to emulate yet alone beat.

Nor has a price been stated, although the objective of the development has been described by Plastic Logic as providing a produce for the business market, rather than for consumers. This being the case, the price could be high, and there is no other product available with the capabilities of the QUE.
